The EC agreed to the Special Branch Police request for Bt18.87 million to fund its undercover operations all over the country, in addition to its investigation and interrogation of witnesses, the source said.

More than 700 Special Branch officers are taking part in the nationwide operations.

The police officers work under the EC secretary-general and the deputy secretary-general, who is in charge of the investigations.

The team has questioned a number of senior politicians and supporters of certain candidates accused of electoral fraud, the source said.

The fund was set aside from the budget allocated for organising the general elections, the source said.

Meanwhile, Election commissioner Sumeth Ubanisakorn said yesterday the EC would on Thursday endorse election winners not facing electoral fraud charges, in addition to issuing yellow or red cards to other winning candidates.

The EC will take a holiday today and resume its work tomorrow, commissioner Sodsri Satayathum said.
