Pirun Phanmakiat, 28, and his brother Nakhon, 24, were pronounced dead at Kasemrat Sukhapibal 3 Hospital.

Lt-Colonel Charoon Boonmee, who was shot three times in the stomach, and Sergeant Chaimongkol Raenglha were both reported in a satisfactory condition.

At 9.20pm on Friday, Charoon and five officers attempted to enforce an arrest warrant for Nakhon while he was drinking with friends at an address on the estate.

Nakhon reportedly tore up the warrant and pushed Charoon in the chest, leading to a struggle. A female relative screamed that police were molesting her.

Pirun reportedly fired his pistol at police, hitting Charoon in the stomach and Chaimongkol in the foot.

The suspects and about 20 friends then engaged in a brief gunfight with police, before escaping in a vehicle, taking one of the officers' weapons.

Police later seized two pickup vehicles and a saloon car, reportedly left behind by suspects at the hospital that they had fled to for treatment.

Metropolitan Police Division 3 chief Amnuay Nimmano said the deceased were "big fish" in a Klong Toei drug network.

Police continue to seek others involved in the incident.
