Biggest countdown party ever

Bangkok will see New Year countdown parties combined into one big bash centred at the CentralWorld Complex this year amid concerns over security, but the megaevent is expected to attract celebrants from all over the region.

According to public and private organisations hosting "Hands Bangkok Countdown 2008", the party would be country's biggest ever for this season.

It will also be the only big one remaining in the capital.

Last year, at least four New Year parties were set for CentralWorld, the National Stadium, Sanam Luang and Rama VIII Bridge. However, all plans collapsed following a series of bombings early New Year's Eve.

This year' highlight is a new gigantic structure, "The Greeting Ball Tower".

It's equipped with special effects to create spectacular moments.

Activities by arts and entertainment studios have been prepared on a largescale stage, making it a truly feast of celebrations to support tourism spending for the yearend.

The event is also designed to be an international symbol of the celebrations for Thais and visitors. Bangkok is a centre of tourism in Southeast Asia, the Thai capital is full of lively attractions and facilities for tourists.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has joined with the private sector to organise parties in many provinces including Ayutthaya, Ubon Ratchathani, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son, as well as the beach resort of Pattaya.
