Ronaldo could be coming home to Brazil, at Flamengo

Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - Ronaldo is in talks with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro about a return to football in his native Brazil, news reports said on Wednesday.

Flamengo vice-president Kleber Leite was quoted as saying that Ronaldo's current club AC Milan had sanctioned the negotiations.

"This is not a marketing manoeuvre. We have have had a first meeting with Ronaldo here in Rio and realised that he is interested in changing his life. The interest of both sides is very big," Leite was quoted as saying.

Flamengo doctors have reportedly approved a move of the injury- prone striker. But Ronaldo will have to be content with a salary of half his Milan earnings estimated at around 3.5 million euros per year (5 million dollars).

Ronaldo, 31, joined Milan in January 2007 from Real Madrid but has rarely played due to various ailments. His contract runs until the end of the season.

The Rio-born Ronaldo has not played in his home country since the 1993/1994 season at Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte, leaving Brazil aged 17 for PSV Eindhoven. He has also played at Barcelona and Inter Milan.
