De Biasi says that nobody would succeeed with Levante squad

Madrid (dpa) - Giovanni De Biasi, coach of struggling Spanish Liga club Levante, raised eyebrows on Tuesday evening by saying that "not even (Jose) Mourinho nor (Rafa) Benitez would succeed with this squad."

De Biasi made this controversial comment in an interview with Spanish news agency Efe, in which he insisted on the necessity for January signings.

Levante are ten points adrift at the bottom of La Liga, already with a doomed look about them. Rarely before in Spain has a team managed to avoid relegation after having so few points at Christmas.

They have just seven points from 17 games, ten points less than second-from-bottom Deportivo Coruna, against whom they lost at home on Sunday.

De Biasi told Efe that "either we change the squad or it will be a problem," and claimed that Levante had only a "three per cent" chance of avoiding relegation.

Italian coach De Biasi, who took over at Levante from Abel Resino in October, said that "everything looked easier when I arrived...but I feel very well here, comfortable."

De Biasi finished the interview by saying that "if we have the chance to sign new players we can try to do something to improve this situation."
