NTC postpones its master plan

The national telecom regulator has postponed the introduction of its second master plan from this month to next year's second quarter, so it can see the new government's telecom policy.

National Telecommunic- ations Commission (NTC) secretary-general Suranan Wongvithayakamjorn said the board had approved postponement so that the NTC could revise the plan in line with a new policy.

The licensing body will extend the use of the first master plan to the next quarter.

It will have more time to hold public hearings on the second plan in the four regions during the next quarter after finishing a hearing in Bangkok last week.

The NTC will also focus on drawing up regulations in the first plan, including those on number portability.

"At least we should finish the portability regulations and put them before the public hearings within the next quarter," Suranan said.

The long-awaited regulations will allow consumers to retain their phone numbers when switching networks.
