Suwit's PM hopes dashed

Veteran politicians Suwit Khunkitti, Puea Paendin Party leader, and Premsak Piayura of the Chart Thai lost badly to People Power Party candidates in Khon Kaen.

In Consti-tuency 3, Suwit received only 63,356 votes, while PPP candidates Nawat Torcharoen, Panya Sripanya and Jatuporn Jaroenchua received 112,142, 103,352, and 98,241 votes respectively.

Consi-dered a contender for prime minister before the election, Suwit's loss has dashed any such hopes.

Premsak was defeated in Constituency 2, where all three PP candidates got more than 115,000 votes while he received only 52,637.

However, the former Thai Rak Thai MP did not lose heart and yesterday went out to thank constituents who voted for him.

"My bond with the people has never changed. If the elected MP cannot fulfil his or her duty, I will be ready to serve," he said.
