Adviser faces ticking off

The People Power Party (PPP) will probe a statement made by Jakrapop Penkhair at its headquarters alleging the Privy Council president had sought to influence the formation of a new government following the general election, party secretary-general Surapong Suebwonglee said yesterday.

"If Jakrapop wanted to speak to the press on behalf of the party, the issue should have been approved by party executives," Surapong said, adding a panel would be set up to investigate and decide on any punishment.

He said the PPP would review its procedure for making statements at press conferences at its headquarters, since some members did so without first seeking the party's approval.  Jakrapop, a PPP adviser, held a press conference on Sunday night at which he claimed that Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda had sought to influence the make-up of the next government by summoning Banharn Silapa-archa and Suwit Khunkitti - leaders of the Chart Thai and Puea Pandin parties, respectively - to meet him at his residence.
