Fugitive poll-axed

A man wanted for allegedly stealing rice was captured yesterday after his democratic fervour got the better of his sense of self preservation.

Police pounced on Amarin Puapan, 38, after he had cast his vote in Lampang's Sop Prap district.

Neighbour Sukham Chai-ai, 55, accused Amarin five years ago of stealing 50 kilograms of rice.

An arrest warrant was issued after Amarin twice failed to heed a police summons.

He denied the allegation yesterday but refused to make a statement outside of court.
