Oh strawberry, oh strawberry

To celebrate the festive season, Bug & Bee cafe is using fresh strawberries as the highlight for appetisers, main courses, desserts and beverages.

There's a festive red-and-green theme for the presentation of the dishes, all created by the restaurant's cuisine creative director, Andrew Lai.

"This year we're bringing back these unique and fun dishes by popular demand, along with a couple of new main courses and desserts to celebrate Christmas and New Year," says its managing director Tony King.

The Strawberry's Cumin' to Town menu begins with an appetiser of strawberry wrapped with deep-fried minced prawn. Then it's time for the strawberry fried rice, made from fresh strawberries fried with jasmine rice, meat, egg and vegetables. This creates a very colourful dish.

For those who like to keep up with the creative fusion innovations, the crepe with gnocchi, strawberries and mixed fruits in chilli sauce is recommended. In the dish, mashed potatoes, spinach, and Italian pasta are fried with strawberries, green apple and mixed fruits in a chilli sauce, then wrapped in crepe. It makes for a riot on the palate and a nutritious treat.

In addition, Bug & Bee offers sweet seasonal delight with its Santa Marvel - a strawberry and raspberry smoothie bottomed with jade tapioca. And for dessert there's the crepe with chocolate-dipped strawberries and whipped cream, combining rich dark chocolate with the tang of strawberries, along with crepe and whipped cream.

Another new dessert is the green-tea strawberry chiffon-cake, the soft layers of green tea cake providing a subtle cushion for the tart and juicy fresh strawberries. Then there are old favourites like strawberry toffee cream pie, strawberry chocolate puff, strawberry flambe and strawberry parfait.

"We get the inspiration to create different strawberry dishes from the berry's intense burst of colour and flavour - we hope they bring festive tastes and good cheer," says Lai.

Bug & Bee cafe is located closed to Sala Daeng BTS station on Silom Road and is open daily 24 hours.
