Prasaeng drops out of race

People Power Party (PPP) candidate Prasaeng Mongkolsiri on Tuesday mailed in his resignation from the party in order to withdraw his candidacy in Uthai Thani.

"Prasaeng's membership ended as of Thursday and the party has notified the Election Commission (EC) to disqualify him from the election," PPP legal adviser Sukhumpong Ngonkham said.

Prasaeng was being investigated by the EC for violating campaign rules by distributing VCDs containing messages from former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra designed to sway votes. Prasaeng's campaign attracted little attention as he was last in the race until he decided to defy the EC's ban on the Thaksin VCDs.
