Red cards at hand for candidates

The Election Commission (EC) is ready to supervise the balloting tomorrow and expects to issue a number of red cards to disqualify certain candidates involved in campaign violations, EC member Sodsri Satayathum said yesterday.

"All polling stations are ready to welcome voters and some stations plagued by floods in the South have already been relocated to the high ground," she said.

Sodsri voiced hope the publicity campaign on how to mark the ballots would help to reduce the number of invalid votes. She also said the turnout might be higher than 70 per cent as previously predicted.

The EC is investigating several vote-buying cases and other campaign violations and this might lead to many candidates being red-carded, she said.
