EC expects many red cards following the Sunday's balloting

The Election Commission is ready to supervise the balloting on Sunday and expects to issue a number of red cards to disqualify certain candidates involved in campaign violations following the voting, EC member Sodsri Satayathum said on Friday.

"All polling stations are ready to welcom voters and some stations plagued by floods in the South have already been relocated to the high ground," she said.

Sodsri voiced hope that the publicity campaign on how to mark the ballots would help to reduce the number of invalid votes.

She also stated that the turnout might be higher than 70 per cent as previously predicted.

The EC was investigating several votebuying cases and other campaign violations and this might lead to many candidates being red carded, she said.
