University student Pemmika Veerachatraksit and classmates Ruthai Rungsiri-methakul, Natthaphol Phasayaphoorin and Watthanyoo Tantheeraphong were charged with "fraud by exploiting a victim's psychological weakness".

They pleaded not guilty and were released on bail.

The Criminal Court will conduct a preliminary hearing on February 25.

The indictment said Pemmika and her mates convinced Prakitpao to buy her a luxury car worth Bt1.56 million and pay another Bt980,000 for a unique licence plate number. These purchases were apparently meant to repay Pemmika for all the wrongs he had done as her husband in a previous life.

The four defendants invented many other stories based on superstition and rebirth to convince the victim to buy many gifts, worth exactly Bt9,658,000, the indictment said. The four have also been ordered to return all the items to Prakitpao.
