Pornchai resigns as PTT chairman
Energy Permanent Secretary Pornchai Rujiprapha tendered his resignation as chairman of PTT, effective last Tuesday, on fears of violating a state enterprise law.
The law on the minimum criteria of state enterprises' directors and employees was enacted on Monday December 17. It stipulates that a state enterprise's director must not be directors or executives of any organisation which wins concessions, forms a joint venture with, or has interest with the state enterprise, unless he is assigned by the state enterprise.
Pornchai is now chairman of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, which is a major natural gas buyer of PTT.
"I chose to leave PTT because there are many things to do at Egat, such as the negotiations for power purchase from foreign countries.
"As PTT chairman, I could not either involve with the company's asset transfer to the government as I am the energy permanent secretary. I thus should resign to help the Energy Ministry ensure that the asset transfer is in line with the Court ruling," Pornchai said.
