Egat subsidiary
Egat International has been set up with initial registered capital of Bt50 million, with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand governor Sombat Santijaree as chairman.
The authority will transfer some employees to the new entity, established for international investment. It will also outsource some non-core tasks.
New president
Thomas White, executive vice president and general manager of American International Assurance (Thailand), was elected president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AmCham) for 2008.
Previous to AIA, White held numerous positions, including president and CEO of Prudential; Southeast Asia region vice president and manager at AIU; and territorial manager for the state of Indiana plus marketing and sales positions at Allstate.
AmCham, the voice of US business in Thailand, consists of more than 620 member companies, representing US$21 billion (Bt707 billion) in investment and more than 250,000 jobs in Thailand.
Energy funds
Ten community energy funds have been established across the country, with combined contributions of Bt606 million as of July, says the Energy Ministry.
Deputy Energy permanent secretary Norkhun Sithipong said another Bt1.887 billion would be contributed next year.
The first 10 funds have been established in 10 provinces. They were set up with contributions from power plants for community development and damages caused by the plants.
Lao Projects
The Export-Import Bank of Thailand is fully prepared to provide loans and equity financing to support Thai investments in hydropower projects in Laos, to promote the use of clean energy and sustainable economic advancement.
Bank chairman Narongchai Akrasanee recently met in Laos with Lao Finance Minister Soulivong Daravong. Both parties agreed to pursue further cooperation in promoting dam and hydroelectric-power-plant construction projects in Laos for both countries' mutual benefit.
