Jutamas bows out of the race

Puea Pandin Party deputy leader Jutamas Siriwan resigned her position and party membership on Thursday in the wake of a bribery scandal involving two US businessmen linked to her when she was the governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand in charge of organising the Bangkok Film Festival in 2003.

Her resignation effectively curtailed her partylist candidacy for Zone 6 comprising Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan.

"Jutamas has made her decision in order to resolve her personal affairs and the party praises her spirit," Puea Pandin spokesman Wachiramon Kunakasemthanawat said.

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said he would ask national police chief General Seripisut Temiyavej to coordinate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to ascertain its report before launching the legal proceedings.

"Everything will proceed in accordance with the law," he said.
