Salee Industry's joint venture is named ILLOchroma Asia, with 51 per cent of shares held by Salee and the rest by ILLOchroma Group. The new venture has registered capital of Bt40 million.
Salee Industry managing director Savate Naratippakorn said the new venture would produce wet glue labels, especially those made of paper.
The products are expected to service clients in Thailand as well as Vietnam and the Philippines.
Targeted customers are soft-drink and beer producers.
The venture has ordered a cutting machine with a capacity of 1 billion units a year. The new machine is
set to be installed early next year and start operations
in the second quarter next year.
ILLOchroma Group's headquarters are in Belgium. Established in 1898, the company is one of the major label producers in Europe. The company produces bottle labels with three techniques: rotogravure, offset and flexography.
At present, the company has five production plants in four countries: Belgium, Italy, France and Poland. The company's production volume is estimated at 500 million square metres a year, supplying labels to such companies as Heineken, Carlsberg, Budweiser, Coca-Cola and Evian drinking water.
The benefit from setting up a plant in Thailand, according to Savate, is lower costs of production and a location closer to customers.
At present, ILLOchroma Asia has Chang Beer as a major client. It is negotiating to supply labels to a customer of ILLOchroma in Europe, but Savate refused to disclose the name.
