Romario suspended for 120 days for doping

Rio de Janeiro (dpa) -Veteran Brazilian striker Romario was suspended for 120 days Tuesday, after having tested positive for a banned substance on October 28. The 41-year-old player-coach of Vasco da Gama blamed the use of a medication to prevent hair loss.

The suspension was decided by a 3-2 vote of the Superior Tribunal of Sports Justice.

Team attorney Joao Carlos Ferreira said he would appeal the ruling, which could put an end to Romario's football career.

Ferreira argued that Romario had never had any problems with doping tests during his 24-year career, which was cappped by his leading Brazil to the win the 19994 World Cup.
