PAD opposes the whitewash of Thaksin but not the PPP

The People's Alliance for Democracy clarified its stand on Wednesday that it aimed at opposing the use of balloting outcome to whitewash former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra but would not intervene if the People Power Party wins the race.

"The PAD will activate its protests only if the PPP uses its victory to help Thaksin elude the law or grant amnesty to the 111 banned party executives or dismantle the Assets Examination Committee," PAD secretary general Suriyasai Katasila said.

Even if the PPP would secure victory to form the next coalition government, the PAD will stand aside because there is no reason to oppose the outcome, he said.

He said the PPP should stop misleading the public into believing that the PAD tries to prevent it from grabbing power.
