For proportionate voting, about 34 per cent would support the Democrat Party while some 32 per cent will opt for the PPP.

The Chart Thai Party has about 4 per cent of support, followed by Puea Pandin (3 per cent), Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana (1.5 per cent), Matchima Thipataya (1.4 per cent) and Pracharaj (1 per cent).

Small parties are expected to garner about three per cent of support. Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva is the top contender for the position of prime minister with the support of 35 per cent, followed by PPP leader Samak Sundaravej (28 per cent), Chart Thai leader Banharn Silapa-archa (4 per cent) and Puea Pandin leader Suwit Khunkitti (2 per cent).

For direct voting, some 62 per cent said had already picked their favourite candidates.

The survey was conducted on 1,472 respondents in 16 selected provinces across the country from December 4 to 10. About 60 per cent of respondents live in rural areas.
