The source, who asked not to be named, said although the VCD and its report did not hurt the party's popularity much in the provinces, a survey in many districts found the margin between the party's popularity and its opponents had narrowed.
"In general, the survey found that the VCD only had a light impact on the PPP's popularity, as in the North and the Northeast its popularity had increased in almost all constituencies.
In Bangkok, however, although the PPP said it was not involved with the VCDs, the part of the speech where Thaksin says he will return had damaged its chances.
"In inner Bangkok, our candidates might lose to the Democrats," he said.
Surveys by many pollsters also claim that a large number of voters were still undecided, but the VCD report might create further protest against Thaksin and by consequence the party, he said.
