The Ratchadaphisek Crimi-nal Court initially sentenced Sornram to three years imprisonment and a Bt20,000 fine for reckless driving that killed scavenger Pitploen Takoma on the night of June 20.
But the court halved the sentence to one year and six months in jail and a fine of Bt10,000 because the 34-year-old actor had confessed, restored the telephone booth and trees he damaged and compensated the victim's family to their satisfaction.
The court suspended the imprisonment for two years and also ordered Sornram to do 48 hours of community service.
The actor was also ordered to report to probation officials four times during the first year.
Sornram was accompanied to the hearing by his mother Mayuree and father Chumporn.
He later told reporters he was content with the ruling and would carry out what the court ordered him to do and make merit for Pitploen often.
His lawyer Manas Nakrak said the court sentenced the actor because he was guilty as charged but suspended the jail term because the actor had paid compensation to the deceased's family, and they did not want to pursue legal charges against him.
