Natthanan adds 200m freestyle gold to kitty

Natthanan Jankranjang collected her latest gold after setting a record of 2:03.00 minutes in the women's 200m freestyle.

Published on December 11, 2007

She erased the old mark of 2:04.01 set by Singapore's Joecellin Yeo in 1999.  "It's definitely the best time in my life,'' said the 21-year-old, who was followed by Ting Wen Quah of Singapore in second and Filipina Erica Totten in third.

She later threatened to quit the sport if the Thai Amateur Swimming Association of Thailand could not promise better treatment for swimmers.

"We have never received much attention from the association and there is no point in continuing to swim for them if they don't try to make things better for us,'' she said.

Philippines won a lion's share of the gold medals by sweeping three of seven gold. Ryan Arabejo grabbed gold in the men's 1,500 freestyle in 8:23.29 mins with Tharnnawat Thanakornworakiart and Singapore's Marcus Mingzhe Cheah finishing second and third, repectively.
