Puea Pandin offers to lead coalition govt

The Puea Pandin Party has volunteered to lead a coalition government after the election to end the turmoil between the pro- and anti-Thaksin camps.

Published on December 11, 2007

The party said in a statement yesterday that if it was elected and allowed to lead the coalition, it would pledge to end social divisions with four tangible measures.

The first measure would be to guarantee justice for the two rival camps by bringing former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to judicial proceedings as soon as possible - and ensuring his temporary release during trial.

The second measure was to establish a national committee, made up of all sectors of society, to map out a new political structure designed to strengthen democratic rule with the King as head of state.

The third measure was to initiate an amendment process for the 2007 Constitution and its organic laws aimed at preventing the seizure of power.

The last measure was to cultivate a new political culture to enhance public participation and tolerance of differing views.

Party leader Suwit Khunkitti voiced concern that the voting outcome might lead to bloodshed and said his party was keen to overcome the turmoil.

"I hope voters will cast their ballots for Puea Pandin in order to end the social divisions," he said.
