Cabinet approves draft bill on Thai indentity card

The Cabinet approved Tuesday the Thai Identity Card draft legislation, which includes punishment for those who reveal personal information of the cardholder against their will, government spokesman Chaiya Yimwilai said.

Chaiya said the Cabinet meeting approved Tuesday the draft bill, which the Council of State had scrutinised, and would submit the bill to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) for its consideration.

The draft bill states that the ID card will carry a memory chip of the cardholder's information, the conditions over the revelation of such information, the punishment for other people's distribution of such information against the cardholder's will, and the adjusted punishment for those using ID cards when they given up their Thai nationality.
