Thai riders brace for Japanese aces

Six top Japanese motocross riders will show their exceptional riding abilities in this year's All Japan Star Supercross Championship at the newly designed motocross track in Nakhon Chai Sri this weekend.

A number of local riders will try to give the Japanese a run for their money.

"We got cooperation from Motorcycle Federation of Japan and the motorcycle production companies, who sent their top riders to participate in the championship, race promoter Sawitri Wongsawan said.

"We believe this will be a good opportunity for motocross fans to see the top riders and to see how the local riders face the challenge," Sawitri said.

The top Japanese riders who will appear in the race tomorrow are Yoshitak Atsuta (No 1) of Honda, Youhei Kojima (44) of Suzuki, Takuma Kojima (101) of Yamaha, Kuraudo Toda (11) of Suzuki, Takase Tanaka (05) of Kawasaki and Masanori Ito (60) of Yamaha.

Thai riders, who will be up against the Japanese, include reigning national champion Arnont Theplib who will be tagged No 1 on his Honda bike, Chaiyan Romphan of Yamaha who will wear No 2 on his bike and the rising star 16-year-old  Thanarat Phenchan from Amnart Charoen province who will also ride a Yamaha.

Other riders who were also given chance to test their mettle against the top Japanese riders are former national champion Chakrit Rungsuwan and Amorntheprit Srikasikij.

 The race will take place tomorrow starting at 3pm and will be televised live on television Channel 7.
