Pro-Thaksin website shut

Access to a website supporting ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been blocked after messages were posted saying that a vote for People Power Party leader Samak Sundaravej was the same as a vote for Thaksin.

Besides the Internet campaign, the owner of www.hi-thaksin.org released an article attacking election commissioner Sodsri Satayathum.

Sodsri on Thursday asked the Information and Communications Technology Ministry to block the site.

It was blocked the following day after Sodsri argued that it could reopen social divisions.

Sodsri yesterday said she was planning to file a lawsuit against the website owner.

"I've never been biased, as the website claimed. The Election Commission will have to check other party websites, and if any are found to have messages posted that could stir unrest they would be closed too," she said.

People Power Party secretary-general Surapong Suebwonglee disagreed that the pro-Thaksin website implied that the country would get Thaksin if people voted for Samak.

He said that if people wanted to support the party they should talk about its policies.

"'Bring Thaksin back home' is not our policy. We have only presented our views on how people can recover from the political and economic crises," he said.
