The company will also use the CSR strategy as the policy for doing business throughout next year, said managing director Chadatip Chutrakul.
She said the company had decorated Siam Discovery and its Christmas tree under the concept of "The Art of Recycling" to encourage the mall's clients and visitors to realise the importance of the environment and recycling.
The company has placed Christmas trees on the first floor of Siam Discovery and in Discovery Plaza. The trees are made from environmentally friendly materials.
Chadatip added that the decoration of the Christmas tree at Siam Centre was under the theme of "Pink Christmas", which represents best wishes for the health of HM the King. The tree for this mall includes a giant billboard in a colourful pop-art style featuring photos of 100 well-known people, such as MR Srikamrung Yukol, singers "Golf" and "Mike" and actor Santi Weeraboonchai.
"All these well-known people are representatives to bring best wishes to Thai people under the concept of '100 people with 100 wishes for the fabulous year of 2008'. I hope the decoration of the two malls will attract people and can increase circulation in the shopping centres during this festive period," she said.
Chadatip said that Siam Piwat had adopted CSR as part of doing business for four to five years. In 2008 the company plans to host many CSR activities, particularly on the global-warming issue, to show responsibility to society. An example is hosting a recycled-product invention contest for students in high schools and universities. "Students can create appliances and instruments to compete in the activity. If their creative products can be used in a real situation, the mall may distribute them in its Loft shop," she said.
Siam Piwat has spent Bt15 million over five years to reduce energy consumption and improve the efficiency of electrical equipment such as reducing the operating hours for the air-conditioning and turning off lights and computers when not in use. The company expects to decrease energy consumption by 7 to 10 per cent per year, she said.
She said the company also supports Wat Pathum Wanaram by building a library for the temple as one of the company's CSR activities.
