Lady Luck waits hosts in the ring

General Thaweep Jantharoj, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand, insists that the hosts could scoop at least 10 gold medals following what seemed a favourable draw.

Published on December 7, 2007

Even though the hosts' fighters are yet to get in the ring, they already were guaranteed 11 bronze medals after having been drawn straight into the semis.

Three Athens Olympic heroes, Manus Boonjumnong, Suriya Prasarthinpimai and Worapoj Petchkum, as well as Kaew Pongprayoon got

the windfall in the men's competition, while all seven of female boxers enjoyed the same luck.

Evergreen fighter Somjit Jongjohor and Sairom Ardee will start the Thai campaign today against their Indonesian rivals in the flyweight

and featherweight divisions respectively.

Thaweep was satisfied with the draw. "We can hardly ask for a better draw. Indeed, we can face anyone at this level of the event. This is the team we have prepared for the Olympics next year.
