Paging Puccini: People really hate seeing clowns cry

We're blowing our own horn here, but last week's Soopsip item about comedian Udom "Note" Taepanich only coming round when he needs us was right on the money.

Published on December 3, 2007

Did you see him on television's "Tee Sib" show? He did a great job of promoting his month of shows coming up in Bangkok in February - the gags were flowing like Sukhumvit Road in the rainy season, only, you know, funny, really funny.

But, boy, is he touchy!

Host Vitawat Soonthornvinate asked him where this fabulous ice-cream parlour of his is in Chiang Mai. Note demurred, saying something about not wanting to promote the place because there's only so much good ice cream to be found in this world.

Well, then, Vitawat replied, maybe "Tee Sib" shouldn't promote his shows in Bangkok.

Note leapt from his seat in horror and started begging the viewers to come see one of his 38 shows - or even better, all of them.

"If you don't come I'm doomed!" he moaned. He suggested renaming the Bangkok series "Diew Ron Ngern". Diew, meaning "single", as in one-man show, is always part of his performances' titles. The rest means that he really, really needs the money.

Call it a good gag, call it a hard sell - just go see the poor fellow's show, will you?
