Prachai to mend fences

Matchima Thipataya Party leader Prachai Leophairatana said yesterday he would meet election commissioner Sodsri Satayatham to clear up a "misunderstanding" over a bribery allegation.

Published on December 1, 2007

Prachai on Wednesday accused Election Commission (EC) officials of conspiring with former party executives to delay his approval as party leader in exchange for a bribe of Bt60 million.

Sodsri has demanded clarification and a written apology from Prachai, otherwise she will sue for defamation.

"No EC officer would have dared request his money. He must say clearly whether he misunderstood or just spoke emotionally," she said. "What he said damaged our reputation."

Prachai said yesterday that his earlier comments had been a misunderstanding.

Suthep Satthapol, head of Matchima Thipataya's legal team, said the EC had approved Prachai's chairmanship and only a few technical hurdles remained.
