A jazzy night ahead

It's rare that Thailand's jazz fans get to enjoy nine guitarists in one venue on one night, but this weekend they can, thanks to a brainwave by Thai Asia Pacific Brewery's Prin Malakula na Ayudhya.

He's put all his efforts into organising "Jazz Guitar Mania Nai Rong Beer Judprakai" and it takes place tomorrow night at Heineken Beer House in Nonthaburi province.

Prin, who is in charge of Heineken activities, felt there was room for a concert before the annual jazz festival. He also liked the idea of the Judprakai concert series held regularly by Krungthep Turakij newspaper's feature section "Judprakai".

The concert brings together various generations of Thai guitarists along with guest singers Saowanit Navapan and Rapeeporn Patumanon. The nine musicians include Padung Khumlertkul, recognised as one of the main pioneers of jazz in the country. He'll be jamming with rising stars Changton Kunchorn Na Ayudhya, Pratak Faisupakorn and Kan Rujinarong, all recent graduates of Berklee College of Music.

Fans will also enjoy the sounds of Nakarin Theerapinun aka Golf T-Bone, founder of the band T-Bone, and Arnat Iamwongsrisakul, a prominent young guitarist who recently won an award from Down Beat magazine for his performance at this year's UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival 2007.

The show runs from 4 to 9pm at Heineken Beer House, 111, Bangbuathong-Suphan Buri Road, Sai Noi, Nonthaburi province. Tickets cost Bt500, and Bt350 for Krungthep Turakij subscribers, and are available by calling (02) 338 3182 and (02) 338 3273.
