Big money at stake for tennis stars

The national tennis squad stand to win Bt2 million if they can sweep all the seven medals in the SEA Games, the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand president Suwat Liptapanlop announced yesterday.

Published on November 30, 2007

Suwat is confident that the strong squad featuring the likes of former champions Danai Udomchoke and Tamarine Tanasugarn will yield at least five gold medals. He said the team would be rewarded Bt1.5 million if six golds are won and Bt1 million for five golds.

Danai will lead the men's team along with doubles favourites Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana and rising star Weerapat Doakmaiklee. Kirati Siributwong and Kittipong Wachiramanowong have been recruited as reserve players.

The women's team, led by Tamarine, include Nuddina Luangnam, Suchanan Viratprasert and Napaporn Tongsalee. Nungnadda Wannasuk and Noppawan Lertcheewakarn will be the reserve players.
