Depression drives businesswoman to suicide

A businesswoman suffering from depression on Wednesday morning committed suicide by jumping off her forth-floor apartment in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district.

Police rushed to the eight-storey City Home Ratchada Condominium in Soi Ratchada 10 at 7.30am to find the body of Piyarat Sukthep, 33, a deputy manager of Digital Phone Co, a subsidiary of AIS (Advance Info Service), on the ground floor, said Major Nattapong Wongsri-on from Huai Khwang police station.

Her mother Rattanaporn Sukthep, 59, told police that Piyarat had been admitted to Chulalongkorn Hospital since November 24 for depression and Rattanaporn came from Nong Khai on November 27 to be with her daughter during her recovering period at home.

Rattanaporn said that she noticed her daughter was still depressed this morning so she talked with her before excusing herself to a toilet. As she came back to Piyarat's room, she saw Piyaporn standing on a chair near the window and jumped, she said.
