The Mall aims for sporting glory
The Mall Group plans to use interest generated by the SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Euro 2008 and the Beijing Olympics next year to drive sales to Bt2.4 billion, or growth of 40 per cent.
Chief merchandiser Saridpong Rattanapote said these sporting events came at a time when competition among sports stores was fierce.
The Mall launched SEA Games Hero yesterday. The event offers special prices, discounts from 30-50 per cent and activities to encourage local athletes.
Eco-cars benefit from tax cut
The Cabinet yesterday approved an excise rate of 17 per cent for eco-cars. The new cars will travel 100 kilometres on just five litres of fuel and cylinder capacity must not exceed 1,300cc for petrol or 1,400cc for diesel. The duty cut is effective from October 2009.
Prices for eco-cars are expected to be between Bt350,000 and Bt400,000.
Kasikornbank named best bank
Kasikornbank (KBank) has been named the country's best bank in The Asset magazine's annual Triple A Country Awards for 2007. Awards were granted to the best banks in 13 Asian countries.
In the first half of the year, the bank recorded a net profit of Bt7.96 billion, a return on equity of 17.41 per cent and return on assets of 1.68 per cent.
KBank posted an improvement in asset quality when its non-performing-loan ratio fell to 3.59 per cent in the first half of this year, from 4.14 per cent in fiscal 2006.
SET gives ex-chairman new role
The Stock Exchange of Thailand today will appoint former chairman Vijit Supinit as an adviser at its Corporate Good Governance Centre, a source said.
