The university's council yesterday officially approved the draft proposal at a meeting chaired by Culture Minister Khunying Khaisri Sri-arun at the university in Phitsanulok.
A draft of the deregulation bill will be submitted to the National Legislative Assembly next week, Malinee Thanarun, a representative of the NU workers, said. Groups of NU students last week began expressing opposition to the proposal.
They demanded the university administration reveal all details of the deregulation bill and its major impacts, as well as demanding to participate in the process.
The situation at NU is similar to Chiang Mai University, where opposition from student groups is growing from fear deregulation will lead to higher fees from universities being forced to be self reliant.
All state universities are now drafting deregulation bills for themselves.
