NAP wants to delay voting

New Aspiration Party leader Chingchai Mongkoltham on Friday petitioned the Election Commission to postpone the December 23 election on grounds that a hasty balloting might not resolve the political animosity and restore democracy.

"The rush to vote might trigger dictatorship as rival parties are still embroiled in hostility and try to defeat one another by money politics," he said.

Chingchai urged the EC to issue a royal decree to revise the balloting day in order to allow more time for rival politicians to cool off.

He said election candidates should have a longer period for campaigning because of the rezoning of constituencies and the new electoral rules.

He said he would forward copies of his party's petition to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont and his deputy Sonthi Boonyaratglin.
