"Rally organisers have requested to rally at the plaza in front of the King Rama VI statue but that area is undergoing preparations for the Sunday's ceremony," Bangkok city spokesman Wuthichai Srinopnikom said on Thursday.
The rally organisers include Chaturon Chaisang who is slated to speak out for what he sees as the tampering of the electoral process by the EC and the junta. Chaturon claims the EC to have overstepped its jurisdiction by prohibiting the 111 from involving in campaign activities.
Commenting on the speculation that the 111 might delay the rally for another week, Wuthichai said the permit for rallying would be decided based on the availability of the park.
As this is the leadup to the December 23 election, 12 public places in Bangkok have been designated for campaign rallies reserved for political parties and candidates and the EC is responsible for scheduling the use of venues, he said, hinting that the park and other sites might be unavailable to the 111.
