The agreement was signed by Vorapravat Suebsaeng, managing director of THAI's cargo and mail commercial operations; Kovit Thanyarattakul, chairman of the Thai Air-Freight Forwarders' Association (TAFA); Peter Trautmann, chief operating officer at Munich Airport; and Roger Scheifele, CEO and president of Cargogate Flughafen Muenchen.
Vorapravat said the establishment of the distribution centre in Munich would aid the distribution of Thai agricultural products throughout Europe.
Munich Airport will serve as the gateway for shipments of agricultural produce from Thailand before distribution to destinations in Europe. Agricultural produce sent from Thailand will receive cooperation from the TAFA and THAI, from a temperature-controlled cargo system at the airline's perishables centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport through to arrival in Munich.
Cargogate proposed designs for the distribution centre, along with development of a business plan. TAFA members intend to invest in the centre and arrange meetings with the Thai government in support of investment from the Thai private sector and in accordance with the Bavarian state government's policy of supporting joint-venture plans for Thai investors.
