Atalanta-AC Milan to be replayed behind closed doors

Milan (dpa) - The Serie A game between Atalanta and AC Milan is to be played behind closed doors after fan riots that caused its interruption at the Bergamo stadium, a sports judge ruled on Monday.

Fans of Atalanta damaged a reinforced glass barrier when the teams originally met on November 11, violently protesting hours after the accidental killing of a Lazio fan by a policeman.

The game was abandoned after seven minutes on a 0-0 scoreline. No new date has been set yet due to a heavy schedule for Milan in upcoming weeks.

Sports judge Gian Paolo Tosel also closed until March 30 the north curve where the Atalanta die-hard fans have their stronghold.

Two other Serie A games, Inter Milan-Lazio and Roma Cagliari, were cancelled on November 11 to prevent possible violence. Both have already been rescheduled for December 5.

The judge also fined Juventus 20,000 euros (28,000 dollars)for a banner shown by their fans containing a racist insult against Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on November 4.
