Reading: ‘The Prophet’ by Kahlil Gibran
“I’ve been going through ‘The Prophet’ for a second time. I have a
reason to do this. For me there are two kinds of books. The first are
those that you read once and throw away. The second are the books that
you read, then want to read again and again. ‘The Prophet’ belongs to
the latter category. There are always hidden ideas waiting to be
discovered. What I love most about it is that it’s both timeless and
essentially truthful. You tend to get a new perspective from the same
old paragraphs as you grow older. I’ve found that the author’s brand of
truth is not really different from the dharma of the Lord Buddha. If
you understand Gibran, you will understand the ideas of the late
Buddhadasa, as the two share many basic philosophical ideas.”
