Thaksin Bt190m poorer

Declaration after 1 year shows he is worth Bt9 bn

One year after his ousting, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had declared assets worth Bt614 million, the National Counter-Corruption Commission said yesterday.

His wife Khunying Pojaman's assets were worth Bt8.5 billion. Their combined worth was Bt190 million less than the previous year.

The NCCC yesterday revealed the assets of 33 members of the Thaksin Cabinet one year on from the military coup of September 19, 2006.

Thaksin's declared assets included Bt1 million in cash and Bt551 million in bank accounts. Moreover, he had shares and other investments worth Bt27 million, land worth Bt1.1 million, rights and concessions worth Bt19 million and other assets worth Bt14 million.

Pojaman had Bt8.59 billion in assets and debts of Bt110 million. Her assets were Bt8.48 billion more than the debt.

The assets included Bt1 million in cash, almost Bt2 billion in bank accounts and Bt64 million in savings in a financial institution. Moreover, she had Bt1.1 billion worth of registered shares and Bt2 billion worth of other shares and investments. She also had a Bt28 million loan, 123 land plots worth Bt2 billion, five houses worth Bt588 million and 37 buildings worth Bt290 million. Other assets included 12 vehicles worth Bt34 million, rights and concessions worth Bt375,374 and other items worth Bt310 million.

The couple's total assets were worth Bt9.098 billion.

According to the law, Cabinet members have to declare their assets when they leave their posts and then again one year later.

Thaksin's declaration after September 19 last year showed he had Bt557 million in assets while Pojaman had Bt8.8 billion. In the past year, Thaksin gained more Bt57 million while Pojaman's decreased by Bt247 million.

However, she had one more house worth Bt264 million at Woodsome Manor, East Road, St Georges Hill, Weybridge, Surrey Kt 13 Old, the United Kingdom.

She also had extra registered stock worth Bt484.5 million and other shares and investments worth Bt381 million, as well as land plots worth Bt80 million.

Former deputy prime minister and industry minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit had Bt916 million of assets, Bt36 million more than last year. His wife Surisa had Bt494 million, which is Bt8 million more than last year.

Former deputy prime minister Suwat Liptapanlop had Bt145.9 million in assets and debts of Bt145.6 million. His balance stood at Bt372,041. Meanwhile, his wife Poonpirom had Bt533 million and their daughter Proudputh had Bt15 million in assets.

Deputy prime minister Surakiart Sathirathai listed Bt447 million, including a Bt50 million house on Sukhumvit Road, a Bt41 million house in Chiang Rai and a Bt31.7 million condominium in the United States.

He also had 59 watches worth Bt32.5 million and Bt20.5 million worth of china and accessories. His wife Thanpuying Suthawan had assets of Bt381 million with 91 items of accessories, diamonds worth Bt101 million and a Bt30 million Buddha-image collection.

Former foreign affairs minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon was the richest of the ministers with Bt4.5 billion in assets including 191 land plots worth almost Bt3 billion. His wife Sopawan had Bt36.6 million.

Former tourism and sports minister Pracha Maleenont had Bt228.7 million in assets, mostly bank savings, which was more than last year.

Former deputy public health minister Anutin Charnveerakul had Bt1.6 billion in assets including a Bt250 million house in Samut Prakan and a Bt30 million yacht. Sanongnuch, his wife, had Bt1.2 billion in assets.
