The Bank of Thailand yesterday declared December 24, the day after election day, a holiday for banks and financial institutions.

The Cabinet earlier made December 24 a public holiday for civil servants and state employees in order to increase voter turnout.
It assigned the Finance Ministry to seek the central bank's cooperation.
The central bank reasoned that the move would encourage citizens to return to their home provinces to cast their ballots on December 23 in line with government policy.
