The new partner has chosen the Kingdom to set up a maintenance centre for gas-turbine generators.
Egat governor Sombat Santijaree said the new joint venture would have more than Bt1.2 billion in registered capital, and negotiations with the new partner for the joint venture should be concluded next year.
"We have a clear direction for setting up a new joint venture to handle maintenance work for gas-turbine generators. About 55 per cent of the venture will be owned by Egat and 45 per cent by the owner of the technology," said Sombat.
Sombat said the joint venture was currently undergoing a feasibility study by its advisory firm. The issue will then be handed to the Finance and Energy ministries for consideration and be concluded next year.
"We've been approached by a prominent private company that is the owner of gas-turbine technology. The company has chosen Thailand as a location for its maintenance centre for gas-turbine generators in the region," said Sombat.
He said Egat's advisory company had already spent more than two years studying the new business. It has already been determined that Egat would strongly benefit from technology transferred directly from its owner.
