NLA endorses Chaikasem as Attorney General

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) today approved the appointment of Chaikasem Nitisiri as the new attorney general.

The approval was granted with the votes of 113 to 0. Four members abstained from the secret balloting.

Chaikasem has served as caretaker attorney general since the retirement of Pachara Yutithamdamrong on October 31.

The new Attorney General graduated from Chulalongkorn University with a law degree and received a Master's degree from Columbia University in the United States. He was appointed deputy attorney general in December 2003.

According to an informed source, NLA earlier established a committee to check the background of Chaikasem. Although his name was mentioned in a corruption scandal surrounding CTX bomb scanners, an investigation showed that Chaikasem was not involved in the corruption.
