Monday after election declared public holiday
The Cabinet on Tuesday resolved to designate the Monday following the election day an extra public holiday, Deputy Interior Minister Theerawut Butrsriphum said.
At its weekly meeting, the Cabinet agreed that December 24 should be declared a public holiday in order to encourage eligible voters to go back to their constituencies to cast their ballots, he said.
Many people live and work outside of their constituencies.
The finance minister was also assigned to inform the Bank of Thailand about the Cabinet resolution in order that the Monday after the election day would be declared a bank holiday, according to Theerawut.
Surin Upatkoon, the main shareholder in the controversial Kularb Kaew Co, was yesterday charged with a criminal offence for alleged illegal representation of a foreign company under the Foreign Business Act 1999.
