On the first day of constituency registration, several political parties' candidates appeared at the Thai-Japanese Youth Welfare Centre yesterday, with the notable exception of Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana.
However, Kunthon Prachuabmoh, the party's deputy secretary-general, turned up at the centre yesterday. He did not know his party had postponed its registration.
Bangkok candidate Bhichit Rattakul said yesterday he would wait till Thursday before registering his party's candidates in Bangkok. He said Thursday would be an auspicious day for his party.
Chuenchob Kongudom, a Bangkok candidate, said he did not know why the party had postponed registration, but the party leader later explained that a fortune-teller suggested registering on another day because the first day of registration would bring bad luck to the party. "I do not believe in fortune-tellers, but it is the party's intention," he said.
Party leader Chettha Thanajaro said Thursday was seen as a more auspicious choice, so they preferred to register on that day.
Party secretary-general Pradit Pattaraprasit said the party had to change the registration schedule because some candidates had switched to the Puea Pandin Party. "We will discuss the problem tomorrow. But we insist that our candidates go to register on Thursday," he said.
