The Budapest-based International Federation of Inventors' Association (IFIA), has presented the IFIA Cup 2007 for His Majesty's Chai Pattana wheel used to treat water.
The IFIA has also presented its Genius Medal prize to honour His Majesty's Self-Sufficiency Philosophy, and his New Theory, which revives farming techniques based on Thai wisdom focusing on minimal use of resources but aiming for higher agricultural productivity.
Meanwhile, all the 84 IFIA country members have given their approval to organising the International Inventor Day Convention.
The first International Inventor Day Convention will be held from February 2-5 at BITEC in Bangkok, Prof Anont Bunyaratvej, secretary-general of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) said yesterday.
IFIA president Dr Andar Vadres said the Chat Pattana water wheel was one of the best inventions recognised by IFIA. It has been in use for more than 20 years and proved to be effective, cheap and easy-to-make to treat water.
Meanwhile, the Korea Institute of Public Admin-istration (KIPA) has presented a Special Prize to His Majesty for his contributions to Thai society. It said His Majesty's inventions had been proven practical and useful.
Both Vadres and Lee were granted an audience with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at Chitralada Palace.
The NRCT also gave awards and prize money to Thai inventors, including Col Phanumas Kosinsenee for his high-precision measurement tools, and Sakda Phruenglamphoo for his low-speed centrifugal device for high-precision hematocrit measurement.
