The Appeal Court upheld the lower court's four-year sentence on Chalee, who was found guilty of the manslaughter of Siriporn Muima, who died while undergoing the liposuction procedure at his clinic in December 2001. The court added three months to the sentence for using expired drugs on the girl.
Siriporn's parents Kamol and Bangern Muima and their lawyer were present for the verdict.
Chalee, who looked worried, was accompanied by his lawyer. He was taken to the court's prison immediately after the verdict, while the victim's parents hugged each other in satisfaction at the outcome.
Chalee's lawyer Wichit Makkharasunthorn said they would appeal to the Supreme Court this month.
Kamol said he was pleased with the court's ruling because it was just. He said he had tried to contact Chalee to discuss an out-of-court settlement but Chalee had insisted on fighting the case in court.
As for the family's civil lawsuit, he said they would have to wait for the criminal case to end first, then the family would consult a lawyer to sue Chalee in the Civil Court for Bt13 million in compensation.
